DESCRIPTION: Russian history is a saga of strength, suffering, and survival. This short survey course will highlight Russian history (from its inception to WWII) and examine those pivotal events (rebellions) that advanced and restricted (pogroms) Russia’s advancement. The Jewish influence of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries towards helping liberate the people from Russian autocratic oppression will be highlighted. To what extent did the Bolshevik Revolution help or harm Russia’s advancement will be analyzed and answered. Are there any remnants of totalitarianism in today’s Russia from its past? CAR members who have had any contact with Russia through work assignments or leisure visits are invited to contact Barry Newman. You can add your personal perspective to the Russian story at a selected session. PRESENTER: Barry Newman, Russian roots and presenter of a shorter version of this topic twice at the Lifetime Learning Institute.
